Summary

Our Road to Istanbul series comes to a glorious and dramatic conclusion as Guy Clarke and Dan Kay cast their mind back to one of the greatest sporting comebacks of all time. Yes, we’ve reached the 2005 Champions League final itself, when Liverpool, inspired by their talismanic captain Steven Gerrard, displayed superhuman-level powers of recovery to come from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with AC Milan after extra-time before winning the shootout 3-2 on penalties. Dan was at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium, 15 years ago, and he tells the story of what it was like to see the Reds lift Ol’ Big Ears in the most unimaginable way possible. And, with Milan 3-0 up and cruising, Guy also finds out exactly what happened in the dressing room at half-time from Liverpool’s then physio Dave Galley, who played his own part in one of the best fightbacks there ever will be.
