Here's your closing bell brief for Thursday, March 5th. I'm Catherine Sullivan for the Wall Street Journal.

U.S. stocks finished lower today as the Dow fell 1.6%. The S&P 500 was down 0.6%, and the NASDAQ was down

0.3%. Rising oil prices and a widening conflict in the Middle East pressured

the broader market. Treasury yields rose for a fourth day as energy costs created new inflation fears.

Among individual companies, Broadcom shares rallied nearly 5% after the chipmaker reported quarterly

results that beat forecasts.

The company saw its revenue from artificial intelligence more than double during the period.

The Trade Desk stock surged over 18% following a report that the digital marketing platform is in talks with OpenAI to partner on ad sales initiatives.

Octa shares jumped 11% after the identity management company posted earnings that topped estimates. Investors shrugged off a disappointing quarterly outlook from the firm.

Morgan Stanley stock fell 3% on news of significant job cuts. The bank is laying off about 3% of

its workforce across three main divisions.

StubHub shares dropped 12% after the ticket exchange platform reported a quarterly loss and lower revenue.

And meta-platform's shares slid 1% after the WhatsApp parent plans to open its messaging platform to rival AI chatbots following antitrust concerns in

Europe. The company also agreed to pay more for power to offset data center costs.
