Summary

As we approach the end of 1 Thessalonians, Paul offers the church three directives on how to live according to the will of God: rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances. But if we want the power to be able to live our lives this way, we need a great perspective of God and his providence. 0:32.1	earth. He's a great king over all the earth. In that Psalm and in many verses
0:38.4	scattered throughout the rest of the scriptures is a foundational claim to
0:41.9	Christianity that God is not just creator. He didn't just breathe everything in
0:48.2	existence but he's also king. He's all powerful. He rules over reality. He's the
0:55.3	theological word. He's sovereign. He's in control. God doesn't show up on
1:03.0	Monday mornings with a cup of coffee in his hand and reports to a boss. In some
1:08.3	of you startup guys are like me neither. But when I say God reigns I don't mean
1:16.8	he's like a tyrannical like stagnant king. Rather he uses his power to
1:24.2	provide ways for us to know him and to purpose history towards a day. And it's a
1:30.3	day that we've been talking about the past couple of weeks when Christ will
1:32.9	return. When God will wipe away all evil and when God will dwell with his
1:37.3	people. He is purposeing history. He's using all of his power to purpose history
1:43.5	towards a day when he'll be ultimately gladified and we'll find the satisfaction
1:48.1	we've been looking for all of our lives. It will be almost like history is moving
1:52.6	towards a wedding day. And so when if God is purposeing history towards that
1:58.3	moment it will feel like the end of history. But as C.S. Lewis says it'll quite
2:04.7	literally be like all of history was just the introduction in the title page. And
