Summary

Rikki is joined by guest co-host Isaac Saul, founder and author of the popular newsletter Tangle. The rise of candidates like Vivek Ramaswamy and Robert Kennedy Jr. has shaken both Republican and Democrat establishments’ expectations for the upcoming election cycle. Rikki and Isaac discuss how their candidacies could shape the presidential race. Citing “It's time for a new generation of leaders”, Mitt Romney announced he would not seek re-election in 2024, retiring after one term. The hosts debate the timing of the announcement and whether other leaders should follow the 76-year-old’s lead. There are ways to protest that encourage others to join a cause, and then there are methods that push potential supporters away. Rikki and Isaac discuss the latest tactics from climate change protesters and why many consider the approach ineffective. Political Eclastics. I'm joined by Isaac Saul, who writes the Tangle Newsletter, and I'm sure

that many of our listeners remember him from co-hosting with Robbie. So thanks so much for being

0:38.1

Yeah. Thanks, Ricky. I'm glad to be here. So I think a great place to dig in is this news from, I guess, last week now that Mitt Romney is retiring.

0:47.9

He does not plan to run for re-election. He was the 2012 candidate for president and obviously soared really high but now at 76 is deciding

0:56.8

that it's time to bow out and suggested that Trump at 77 and Biden at 80 do the same. So I know that

1:04.0

you've written about this issue recently and what do you what do you make of this news and

1:08.4

whether people will actually follow Romney's lead?

1:11.6

Yeah. Well, I mean, first of all, it's kind of remarkable that this is a story.

1:16.9

You know, a 76-year-old senator slash former governor, former presidential candidate retiring,

1:23.9

should be normal. I mean, what Mitt Romney's doing should be the norm. He's like looking around,

1:30.3

he's got 25 grandchildren or something. He's made a good career. He's had his time in the Senate

1:36.8

serving as, you know, a former governor of Massachusetts, took a couple of runs that being president,

1:42.2

didn't work out. And it's like, all right, it's time to

1:45.0

hang it up. I'm 76. I'm going to go, you know, enjoy the rest of my life in retirement with my

wife and my grandkids. And I think that's a really normal sane thing for any American working person

1:58.3

to do. What's kind of nuts is that it's not normal at all.

I mean, especially in the last 20 years,
