I'm Spike Eskin with Mike Levin on a frustrating sad, yet not all that surprising evening as Mark Stein reported that Sam Hinkie has stepped down from his position with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Wage was reporting that they were not planning on firing him, that they were going to hire somebody equal to him, which sounds like maybe the most insane thing I've ever heard.

I don't know of any organization in sport where you have a president and general manager, and then you hire a chairman, and then you hire somebody equal power to the president and general manager, who by the way is the chairman's son.

Here is the statement from the Sixers, which I just saw. Have you seen this yet?

Yeah, I haven't. So I'll just read it. This evening, Sam Hinkie notified the organization that he has elected to step down as president of basketball operations and general manager.

While we're disappointed in Sam's decision, we'd like to sincerely thank him for his contributions over the last three seasons.

There's no question that Sam's work has put us in a very strong position to take advantage of numerous opportunities for an exciting future.
