Summary

We’re on a production break for a couple of weeks or so due to a trip out of the country, so we’re revisiting some valuable episodes from the beginning (and original format) of the show. (Plus, you get to hear us to an ad read we didn’t have time to cut out.)

Here’s the original description of this episode:We’ve heard for years that WHEN you eat can make a huge difference. We’ve also heard that WHEN we eat carbs…or fat…or protein…can be critical to making the biggest gains, or losing the most weight, etc. What’s the actual story? Here are the additional angles we came up with:
  • Are there time windows for maximizing gains (or weight loss)?
  • Does timing matter more for some people than others?
  • Do you need to build your life – and your workouts --- around your meals?
  • Can you eat so much protein at one time that your body can’t use it all?
  • Will too much protein damage your kidneys?
Dr. Mike Israetel comes in at about 11:21 to set the record straight.

A cofounder of Renaissance Periodization, Dr. Mike Israetel holds a PhD in Sport Physiology from East Tennessee State University. We kick off the show talking about engaging an audiences, genetics, and stretch goals.

0:34.2

So we went back to some older ones.

0:36.4

0:40.6

so or whatever it is.

0:43.8

Our old show used to have a little bit different format.

0:47.2

So what we would do is we'd grab a question from the world from our experiences from anywhere

0:54.3

and we would match an expert or find an expert in that category.

0:57.9

Jim and I would rant about it and kind of give our joking but not joking opinion before

1:02.4

because some of the answers we knew-ish or had experience with and some we were clueless

1:07.4

and then we would call in our expert and they would give you the flat out truth about

1:11.0

it all.

1:20.4

a few of these episodes you're hearing in the upcoming weeks are a flashback to some

1:23.2

of that and many of the topics are still very, very relevant.

1:27.6

Yeah, so first off is an episode with Dr. Mike Izretel about whether meal timing makes

1:37.8

any difference or not.

1:40.0

And I think that this information is maybe fluctuated a little bit since this episode
