Hey there this is Kai. What you're about to hear is the second installment in a three-part

series which is to say it'll make a ton more sense if you back up and listen to the

episode in your feed just before this one.

The series is pulled from a podcast that we made a couple years ago called Caught.

It's about the ways in which young people who do in fact need help, instead get trapped inside

courts and jails and prisons. Given the focus on policing right now and on how to

fix or really just get rid of the criminal justice system as we know it altogether,

we decided to revisit one of the stories we told and caught.

It's the story of one young man and a journey through the story of one young man and a journey through the system that

began in grade school. In the previous episode we left him as a teenager inside a

juvenile detention center in Queens and we pick up the story from there.
