The conversation shifts to the discipleship gap: most churches nail Sunday services but struggle to make actual disciples. Ryan shares how Tentmakers is scaling weekly Bible studies globally without massive buildings or budgets, and why traditional metrics like church attendance miss the surge in digital Christian content. Together they unpack smaller, more intimate models of church, how to start Bible studies at work with just a couple people, and a natural partnership between Tentmakers and Pray.com for ongoing digital discipleship.

You know, when we started tentmakers, it was just about, I didn't feel like the churches were doing a very good job of having discipleship.

0:06.4

You know, it's like, come on a Sunday.

0:08.6

We'll talk to you.

0:09.9

And it's a good message.

0:12.0

And that's kind of it.

0:13.1

Yeah.

0:13.4

And that's how most churches operate today, unfortunately.

0:16.6

And, well, good churches are good at evangelism. Good churches are good at discipleship. Great churches are great at both. Right. And it's rare to your point. And I would say there's more evangelistic focused churches than there are discipleship focused. Well, because it's hard, right? Yeah. You scale the church.

0:39.5

You do evangelism great. You scale. And now you need to disciple. You know, I'm not enough people.

0:44.6

You need a lot of leaders. Exactly. Yeah. And so it's really hard. You need physical, you know,

0:50.8

people to do it. It can't be one pastor talking to a massive congregation. That's

0:55.6

right. That's way easier to scale. That's right. So, yeah, I mean, we started doing it out of necessity

1:00.7

because the churches just haven't been doing it. And it's not like I set out to like,

1:07.1

I'm busy running businesses. Okay. But like, I just saw a need and we've been doing it. And now,

1:12.4

you know, you've had thousands of meetings of Bible studies locally and virtually and all this

1:17.2

stuff. And as I'm scaling our model, I just see kind of the inefficiency of what you just mentioned

1:24.1

of. You're seeing less big buildings, less all this because it's like, man, you know, if we really just optimize for a Sunday service, which is what most churches do, um, you know, you fill out one service and you have two and you have three. And then eventually, you know, you're packed and, you know, I get like, it's awesome. We want that to happen. But then at the same time, it's like,

1:44.6

oh, so now, you know, we need another 20 million to scale again. Yeah. But we never optimized

1:49.8

what we already had. Like we never got to do in discipleship and maximizing the current building.

1:56.8

Yeah. And I just, for me anyways, I have a problem with it. The more that I continue on in ministry and my own journey.

2:03.9

Because even just from a financial stewardship perspective, it's like, dude, if we're going to spend all this money on this building, we got to like use it.

2:13.8

For one day a week. For one day a week, right? And, you know, I'm seeing we're able to
