Lawyers for Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, made a last-ditch appeal before British magistrates,

not to extradite him to the United States where Assange faces charges of violating the Espionage Act.

It has been nearly a decade since Assange released a trove of classified material, including

videos of American soldiers laughing while committing war crimes. None of those soldiers were ever

so much as demoted, yet Julian Assange now faces 175 years in prison if he's handed over to America.

Chelsea Manning, the U.S. service member, who turned the documents over to Assange,

ended up doing years in prison, often in solitary confinement until Barack Obama finally

commuted her sentence.

Let's be clear, Assange leaked classified material that wasn't protecting any foreign assets

with actionable intelligence that was keeping our soldiers safe or was furthering our national

security.

Julian Assange leaked material that had been classified to protect soldiers and higher

ups from getting prosecuted for war crimes.

And for that, our government wants him to spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Assange is no different than Daniel Ellsberg.

And by that I mean he's a hero and should be returned to Australia where he can continue his work

keeping an eye on us.
