I'm Virginia Allen and this is the Daily Signal Top News for Tuesday, October 22nd. Earlier this month the Washington Free Beacon reported that Kamala Harris

0:28.0

had plagiarized portions of her book now the Beacon has discovered

0:32.2

that Harris appears to have plagiarized large sections of a congressional testimony back in 2007.

0:39.0

So in 2007, Harris was serving as the District attorney of San Francisco in April of that year

0:45.8

she testified before the House Judiciary Committee in support of a bill.

0:50.2

The bill was called the John R Justice Prosecutors and Defenders

0:55.0

Incentive Act of 2007.

0:57.3

It ultimately didn't pass, but if it had,

1:00.4

the bill would have created a student loan repayment program for state and local prosecutors.

1:05.7

That's according to the beacon. Harris argued in her testimony that the loan forgiveness program

1:10.4

would encourage young attorneys to enter the field of public service.

1:14.7

But her word choice was strikingly similar to another testimony that was given two months prior

1:20.7

in support of the bill. The Beacon found that virtually her entire

1:25.3

testimony about the bill was taken from another district attorney.

1:30.0

Winnebago County Illinois District Attorney Paul Logley had testified in support of the legislation

1:37.0

two months earlier before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

1:41.0

In total, 80% of what Harris had to say about the John Our Justice Act was

1:46.2

taken verbatim from Logley submitted testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee in February of 2007.

1:54.4

The Harris campaign did not respond to the Beacon's request for comment.

1:58.4

If you want to see the side-by-side images of Harris and Logley's testimony, you can check out the Washington Free Beacon story that's linked in today's show notes.
