Today's Satellite Sisters Podcast is a replay of a conversation with Nike Co-Founder and Creator Phil Knight about his new memoir Shoe Dog, the story of Nike's early days. This episode first aired in May 2016 and is rereleased now in anticipation of the new Ben Affleck/Matt Damon movie AIR, in which Ben plays Phil Knight and Matt plays Sonny Vaccaro. Both Liz Dolan and Lian Dolan worked at Nike and our conversation today will focus on what made the corporate culture at Nike unique and special and took the business from the trunk of Phil's car to a 30 billion dollar business. Liz Dolan who started as the Nike PR Director in 1988 and went on to become Global CMO, shares the one-page Nike Principles that she received in her first day of work in 1988. Phil Knight shares why running, the pioneering spirit of Oregon and a sense of humor were all critical to Nike's success and creating the culture that made Nike so special. The book is Shoe Dog, a must-read for business people, entrepreneurs and sneaker fans. Shoe Dog has been optioned as a movie by Netflix and is in development by Frank Marshall. 0:09.6	doing a new show tomorrow. Instead, we thought we would share with you a very fun interview
0:15.5	we did in May of 2016. This is Liz and Leanne talking to Phil Knight, the CEO of Nike.
0:23.5	He had just published his memoir, Shoe Dog. And I worked at Nike for 10 years. Half of
0:30.6	that time I was head of PR. The other half, I was the global chief marketing officer.
0:36.4	Yes, I was. Yes, I actually was.
0:39.4	And Leanne, you I worked I worked at Nike for four years full time and then a couple years
0:44.5	freelance afterwards. I started as a lowly production assistant in the film and video
0:49.2	department and worked my way up to a writer and producer. But weirdly, even though I was
0:54.1	sort of low person on the tone and pole, I had a shocking amount of interaction with Phil Knight
0:58.7	when I was there because we produced the sales meetings and all the stuff that he would
1:03.5	do to talk to the global investors and to the athletes. So you do you do tell a funny
1:10.4	story here about the time he called you once laid on a Friday night like Dylan, what
1:14.9	is going on? I was shocked. I was shocked how much interaction I had with CEO of Nike.
1:21.8	And we thought this would be timely because as we mentioned in last week's episode of
1:26.0	Satellite Sisters, there's a new movie coming out in April called Air and it's the story,
1:33.3	the alleged story of Air Jordan, how Air Jordan came to be. And in this movie, Ben Affleck
1:41.1	is playing Phil Knight, which we find hilarious. And Matt Damon is playing Sonny Vicaro, who
1:48.0	worked in the basketball department and recruited basketball players to work for Nike. So he
1:53.6	allegedly discovered Michael Jordan. We'll just leave it at that. But we thought it would
1:58.5	be fun for you to listen to this episode and hear the real Phil Knight. So in case you
