Summary

Jim and Matt recap UFC 279’s wild game of matchmaking musical chairs with guest co-host and comedian Jim Florentine in this headlines-only edition of UFC Unfiltered! In light of former UFC middleweight Elias Theodorou’s untimely death, Matt opens up the show with some of his favorite memories he shared with the former Ultimate Fighter winner. The guys turn the conversation back to welterweight Nate Diaz’s submission win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 as they walk Jim Florentine through events he might've missed out on seeing such as heavyweight Chris Barnett's star-making performance and Irene Aldana's insane upkick KO. In typical comedian fashion, Florentine fills the gaps of his MMA knowledge with his favorite combat sports clichés, saving time to talk with Matt about what it’s like breaking into the business of comedy.

I don't know if anybody knew. I think he kept it quiet. I knew Elias pretty well. Elias

1:04.5

during his UFC career spent, I'll tell you, I get numerous times at both my Academy,

CERBJJ and Longos. He'd be sparring at Longos and he'd be doing jujitsu at my school. And he did

1:20.7

that for like, I'm telling you, because I feel like I really knew the guy. So he's been at my school

1:25.2

more than a handful, like handful of times. But every time he stayed, he'd say for whatever,

1:31.1

two to three weeks. And he was a really good guy. It's very, very upsetting, very good-looking

1:36.7

gentleman and very humble. And I would always tease him and be like, yeah, go ahead in his fights,

1:41.9

because he was very good at not taking damage. And he was good. He was very good. Was it

1:46.4

that he did the ring stuff for like, in the two or something? Yeah, he was a really handsome dude.

1:51.2

He did the, he was like a ring-card boy instead of a ring-card. Right, right, right. And that's

1:56.0

who he was. So I told him, man, I used to joke with him like, hey, look, man, I wouldn't take any

2:00.3

damage too if I fucking looked like you, you know? And he was a good sport. He was a,

and he was a really good fighter. He had a, you know, he had a very good record. And he was a good guy.
