We finally have River Nice on the show.

Do you want to say who you are and what you do?

Thank you so much for having me. I'm so excited.

So my name is River Nice. My pronouns are they them and I am a queer anti-capitalist independent financial planner.

How did you start doing this?

I used to work in tech and it wasn't for me. When Trump got elected, I was like, well, there has to be a way to use what I am good at to help queer people.

My partner at the time had a lot of credit card debt from her gender transition.

I had just sat with her and just intuitively made her a budget and debt plan.

She was like, you have to help us with this. Nobody knows how to do this.

The whole internet just told me to stop buying makeup and avocado toast and it wasn't helpful.

She's the one who gave me the idea that doing financial planning for queer people could be a useful thing. That was a start.

What specifically are things that the queer community needed help with?

Just like someone who already understands what it is to be queer, I mean, you know what it's like.

Being able to talk to somebody about money and not have to explain what hormones are, what gender affirming surgery is, that family planning takes a little extra effort and sometimes a lot of extra money.

There's just like those basic, just like competency of understanding what our lives are like.
