I was looking forward to chatting with Rebecca, especially about her new debut album 'Love Life Choices' - Although having listened to her singing and knowing some of her musical family histories. It becomes all apparent why she sounds so polished for her age. Having active encouragement from an uncle - Steve Angel the drummer who played with Jimi Hendrix. Plus, Rebecca's mom and dad, Linda and Dennis Angel, also musical in their own right actively encouraged her to pursue he dreams of being a professional singer. You then connect this all with a musical legend producer and mentor - Jason Miles and it all makes sense. Prior to this debut album, Rebecca has a growing list of major music accolades/awards to her credit. Winning New Artist Breakout Single in 2020 with the 'For What It's Worth' Love Life Choices features a roll call of some of today’s most versatile, intuitive players, who as an ensemble brings out Rebecca’s greatest strengths. How are you doing in Rebecca Angel? Good, how are you?

I'm awesome. Yeah, I would be very welcome. So where are you coming to us from? I think upstate New York, right?

Yeah, I'm currently in New York City in Manhattan. So I'm one of the few US standing here, but I am moving upstate very soon.

So I'm excited for a little more space, but you know, I made it work in the pandemic. Yeah, that's challenging time to be in New York City.

So you're originally from here. Is it originally you were upstate New York, though, right? Family wise or?

Yeah, Westchester and Scarst, the New York I grew up there, which is actually quite close to where I'm moving to in Eastings on Hudson.

But yeah, it's a great community. I was involved very early on with music and my dad's musician. So from a very young age, you know, he introduced me to so many great artists

and my parents were very supportive of all the music stuff. So I did different voice lessons from my young age and always involved in musicals and all that.

So I had pretty early beginnings with that.

Who are some of you? I mean, you have such a cool voice and we're going to talk about your album that was actually just released. I think it was June 11th or it was this week, right?

Yeah. Yeah. Last Friday.

Yeah. And I've been checking it out. I love your voice is so cool. It's like it's an album is great, too, because you cover a lot of territory. There's some joe beam. There's bill withers.

There's, you know, Buffalo Springfield. It's really interesting. It's a fun mix. And it was produced by our friend, Jason Miles, who's worked with Sting and Luther Von Vandros and a whole bunch of people.

So when you actually first got started, who were some of your influences? Like I know it was like obviously classy jazz or some of that, but tell me who really inspired you?

So from a very young age, the Beatles were definitely on repeat in the household. Elvis Presley, my dad grew up in, you know, the 60s. So his musical style definitely influenced my early beginnings.

And Ella Fitzgerald, you know, Louis Armstrong. So I had a big array from a young age, different musical styles.

But I actually start working with Jason Miles when I was 15 years old. I'm 25 now. So it's been, you know, like half my life, the large portion. And so he's had a huge musical impact on me as well.

He really introduced me to like shot day, like diamond life, promise album. So you can see like some of the influence from that. I guess in college, I studied vocal jazz at Iska College of St. New York.

And I really got into some of our Brazilian music, like Stan Getz, show, show, baritone, Sergio Mendes, Jobyne of course. So yeah, I think you can tell I also with that album because they're such a wide array of genres.

I guess it's kind of touching on different points of my upbringing and musical interests. And I love all music. So it's kind of, you know, I tried to put my own spin on it and have a connected theme throughout the album, but also tons of styles. And you have a Bob Marley soon too. So it's, you know, and something for everyone I hope.
