Summary

We recorded this episode live immediately following the Xbox Showcase at Gamescom. We discuss why we thought this was a poor overall showing for Xbox due to pacing and notable game absences like Halo Infinite, Bright Memory Infinite, Scorn, and CrossfireX. But we also go over the really cool stuff, like the Forza Horizon 5 custom controller, xCloud coming to console, new indies like Midnight Fight Express, and more!

Hey, I'm Ryan McCaffrey. Welcome to a very special road to Gamescom episode of podcast unlocked

0:08.7

IGN's dedicated Xbox show. Gamescom hasn't officially kicked off yet, but of course Microsoft

0:14.9

decided to get the party started. A little early with that Xbox showcase, there is plenty

0:19.5

to unpack from that. We had what? About 80 minutes worth of content there, almost 90. So,

0:25.2

wanting me to talk about that very Xbox game showcase, our DesiNlegary and our friend

0:30.4

Cam Hawkins, welcome gentlemen. Hey, how's it going? Yeah, we came out of that a little

0:36.6

unexpectedly. We thought maybe it would go the full 90 minutes there once it blew past

0:41.2

the hour, but they surprise us a little bit. But I want to start, of course, with overall

0:47.3

reactions. So, I went on our E3 live post show. I thought E3 was the best showcase Microsoft

0:55.3

has ever done. It was tight. It was full of amazing games. It was well paced. This,

1:01.1

I did not feel the same way about it. I thought they got, they fell back into a lot of their

1:04.8

old bad habits of just airing things out for segments for way too long for the littlest

1:11.1

things like with all due respect, in exciles, wasteland DLC, things like this. I thought,

1:19.6

I thought this could have been a lot shorter, but there was still good stuff. So, before

1:23.7

we get into that, the sort of deeper dive criticisms and the good things, Cam, let me go

1:28.7

your way first here, your overall thoughts. Yeah, I got an echo a lot of what you said.

1:34.6

This show should have been 45 minutes to an hour max. They, like they deep dived on games

1:41.8

that, well, I understand their first party titles. I feel like, you know, as someone who

1:46.4

plays niche games, their games under their first party lineup that are more niche that

1:51.7

have smaller communities that I know, like, want to see the love given to them, but like

1:56.5

just the amount of content that they're, that they were being presented with. It just

2:02.8

didn't justify a five to 10 minute developer interview on it. And I think that they're,
