We start this episode with interest rates, with the Federal Reserve expected to announce its first

cut since December.

Mounting signs of a weak labor market are a key reason why the Fed is likely to lower interest

rates to trigger a cut in borrowing costs when they meet this afternoon.

But there's an elephant in the room. President Donald Trump's aggressive effort to reshape the

Fed's top ranks and piled pressure on the politically independent central bank.

With what to expect from today's pivotal meeting, here's CNN's Matt Egan.

This is shaping up to be one of the strangest Fed meetings in recent memory, both because

of the confusing economic situation and because of the chaotic political backdrop.

And yet investors think a rate cut is a slam dunk.

They're pricing an 896% chance of a quarter point cut today and a 4% chance of a jumbo-sized

interest rate cut of half a percentage point.
