The essence of compassion for ourselves and others – what I call Radical Compassion – has three key elements: it is an embodied experience (a felt sense of tenderness), it is inclusive all beings, and it naturally moves us to act from a caring heart. 0:33.2	It was told by a social activist whose name is Fran Peevee.
0:37.2	And she describes walking through the Stanford campus and seeing a group of people and some
0:44.1	video equipment and they were all crowding around a chimp.
0:48.8	Actually there's two chimps.
0:50.5	There was a male chimp who was loose and a female who was on a chain and the crowd was
0:55.3	trying to get the two chimps to mate.
0:59.1	The male was really into the idea.
1:01.1	In fact, he was grunting and tugging at the female's chain.
1:05.0	The female was really scared.
1:08.2	She was whimpering and pulling away and trying to avoid his advances.
1:13.0	So for this woman, Fran Peevee, she said a wave of empathy swept through her for the
1:18.6	female chimp on the chain.
1:20.9	And then she had an experience.
1:22.5	She said she'd never forget.
1:23.9	I want to read to you what she wrote.
1:27.0	She said suddenly the female chimp yanked her chain out of the male's grasp.
1:32.8	To my maize when she walked through the crowd straight over to me and took my hand.
