Civil rights activist in Kansas City native, Tamara Janus, has been a prominent voice

among the peaceful protesters seeking action to tackle police abuses and institutional racism.

More controversially, she's the Minister of Justice for New Black Panthers and involved with

the New Black Panthers for self-defense, two groups that have been

criticized by civil rights watchdogs as racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic and militant hate

groups.

I wanted to get an idea of how Tamara's views on the issue of race,

were affected by her experience growing up in a still somewhat divided city

where I also live.

One of the biggest things that stand out in Kansas City with regards to racism,

that dividing line, my father was a master draft man, an architect in the Kansas City area, and so a lot of the structures on the west side of Truths Avenue and southwest of Kansas City. My father helped design. He helped design

the blueprints to those structures and some of them being structures owned by J.C.

Nickel.
