Hello, this is Father David Nix with the Padre Pirogrino podcast, and it's 9 p.m. here.

I'm on a Greek island, and behind me are many refugees from Gaza and Syria.

And, you know, I'd like to get to my point in just a few minutes, but one of the things I'd like to say first is there was a time in my life when I was serving to poor quite a bit. It was especially high school and times after that as a paramedic.

And, you know, I think a lot of my teaching online the last few years has brought me very much

into a conservative and traditional camp. And one of the things that we stand for, obviously,

is against open borders.

If you look at what happens in the United States, we know that those open borders, the only people that benefit from those are cartels.

It's not the people crossing. It's not American citizens. It's only the cartels.

And so I certainly do hold to my view on immigration that I've been holding for quite a while

online. But there's some other things to look at. I'm getting to know here on this Greek island

a couple very conservative Franciscans who do tremendous work for the poor.

This afternoon we bagged up hundreds of bags of food.

They give out every Tuesday 700 bags of food for these refugees.

Again, behind me from Gaza and Syria.

And then tonight we went through and gave them pizzas.

I think the most requested item as we walked through the camp tonight was soap.

And as I talked to these people and as I talked to the Franciscans who are also very much against open borders, by the way.

But they have such a tremendous heart for the refugees.

Basically, their attitude is having open borders is a really bad idea, but once they're here, Christian charity requires we take care of them.

And the other thing to realize that we have to, I think we have to differentiate between immigrants who are in a new country due to desires of malice for the people there

and people who are truly looking for a new job. Now people will say how can you possibly test that

at the border, but there are countries that are able to do that. In fact, I think that's what
