Give us a little background. Where it all started for you, where you grew up, what

childhood was like for Jocko Willing. Grew up in a small New England town on a dirt road. My parents were school teachers. I was a

pretty rebellious kid to put it lightly. As soon as I had the opportunity I

wanted to get away from my hometown and the quickest way for me to do that was to join the military.

So I joined the Navy when I was 18 years old.

Wow. And enlisted I knew I wanted to be a seal. I got a contract that got me a shot at going to the basic seal training and that's what I did.

What was it about the seals that just at 18 years, you know, that's what I want to do?

You know, I spent a lot of time in Maine as a kid. I had a lifeguard that taught me how to surf up in Maine.

So I was comfortable in the water and I liked the water and I wanted to be stationed somewhere where they were surfing because they're surfing in Maine. It's not bad, but it's not great. And when I was a kid I would see pictures and server magazine of California and really

wanted to go there of course when you're a kid when you're growing up and your

parents are school teachers I mean we didn't go anywhere for vacation like that

happen so I think that you could actually go and teachers and we didn't go anywhere for vacation. It didn't happen.

and actually somehow live there, it seemed like a great choice.

So I knew that the SEAL teams were stationed either in San Diego, California or Virginia Beach, Virginia.
