For a lot of people, originates in school.

When we are called upon to answer a question in front of the class and we get it wrong.

Not only do the other kids laugh at us, but the teacher might scold us when we're at home trying to do our homework.

And our parents understand it and get it, but we're having a tough time struggling with it.

And then they are overly critical to us about how we're responding to that.

And so it teaches us at a very formative age, if I make a mistake, I'm going to get in trouble. There's something wrong with me. And then

we carry that forward into adulthood in that over self-criticism, in perfectionism, even in

procrastination, it shows up because I don't want to make a mistake.

I don't want to show up as any problem.

The counter to that is if we look at mistakes as stepping stones for growing, for learning,

you know, we learn how not to do something.

And this is a kind of a thing for everyone to think about yourself too, is the best way to learn something

is to suck at it, is to be terrible at it, is to make that a part of the process.

You know, every single business that is a success to this day, the people who started those

businesses had multiple failed businesses in

front of them. Every single business that is a success story was built on failure. In fact,

every success in this world has been built on mistakes and failure. And if we can teach ourselves

and we can teach our kids, great, you made a mistake. What can you learn from that mistake?

How do you own that mistake?

And what are you going to do to fix it?
