This week we're joined by Dina Hillio Whitaker, a citizen of the Colville-Confederated tribes.

She is a lecturer American Indian Studies at California State University. She's also known for her

environmental advocacy, her teaching of traditional ecological knowledge,

and she's also an award-winning journalist contributing to sources like Indian Country Today and High Country News.

She also joined Roxanne and the authoring of the book, All the Real Indians Died Off, and

20 other myths about Native Americans and her most

recent book is called as long as grass grows the indigenous fight for

environmental justice from colonization to Standing Rock which came out in 2019 and today we're going to be discussing that book

among other things. So we welcome Dina. Yeah and we recorded this prior to the inauguration of President Biden.

So some of the things we talk about are anticipating what Biden is going to do, such as

cancel the Keystone Excel pipeline and kind of roll back Trump-era policies.

But nonetheless, I think the conversation that we had is very pertinent because it doesn't you know these actions don't

fundamentally change the colonial relation of the United States towards

indigenous people and so that's that's what I found pretty fascinating

about this conversation.

There's a lot to dig into, I think,

the other element of it is how Biden has you know moved us into what could you know ostensibly be called a

green revolution with big scare quotes meaning that we're going to undergo a massive transition

towards renewable energy sources,

which is going to require all kinds of mining

and mineral extraction, as we can see you know with Trump signing

into law certain or rolling back or fast tracking I should say environmental reviews in places like you know the oak flat which is a
