Hello and welcome to Psychology and Seattle. I'm your host Kirk Honda,

0:03.6

licensed therapist and professor. Today we're going to talk about psychopharmacology

0:08.0

and as a special guest on the show to talk about psychopharmacology, we have Dr. Bob Grubs.

0:14.0

He teaches at the University of Washington in Seattle and he also teaches at Antioch

0:18.5

University, Seattle, where he teaches various different psychology students about psychopharmacology.

0:24.9

He also teaches dental students about psychopharmacology. And off the air you said you wanted to start

0:30.5

off by saying something in particular. Why don't you go ahead and say that right now?

0:34.4

One of the important messages I'd like to get out there that, you know, even though

0:39.1

psychologists right now, for the most part, don't have prescription privileges, prescribing privileges,

0:44.7

they still are in a really good position to help their clients understand the medications that

0:50.0

many times are already on. And they spend more time with those people than most of the physicians do.

0:56.0

So they have a better opportunity to observe the client and sort of get a sense of what the

1:01.2

issues might be related to the medications. So when I teach it, that's what I try to focus on is

1:07.2

understanding what the drug classes are but also what are the important side effects that they

1:12.1

might be observing and how to be aware of potential drug interactions, especially those that are fatal.

1:21.0

Hey deserving listeners, this is an old episode that we have re-released as a patron-exclusive

1:26.0

episode. So if you want to hear the full episode, you have to become a patron of the podcast by
