My entitled mom refuses to allow me to move out of our one-bedroom condo, stating that I'm way too immature to live on my own, and that I can't even do simple things like cook for myself. But despite the fact that I commute nearly four hours every single day to college, my mom is refusing to let me leave, putting me in a situation that is honestly so demoralizing. Here's what happened. So as the title suggests, I live in a one-bedroom condo with my parents, and I've been renting ever since 2015. For reference, I'm 21 years old, and my parents are in their 50s. My dad is unemployed, so my mother is the family's breadwinner. Because of our financial situation, we can't afford a bigger place. So for the past decade, I have been sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room, and I haven't had a room of my own for many years now. I'm currently in my second year of university, and my campus is two hours away, meaning that I spend four hours commuting daily, and I know, I know it is exhausting, especially when I have early morning or late afternoon classes. My friends, relatives,

and even my parents' friends are perplexed by this. They'll ask questions like, well, why don't

0:58.6

you find a place nearby? Doesn't your university offer living accommodations? Why don't you move out?

1:03.8

When I was your age, I already moved out. I know that in many Western cultures, students move

1:08.2

out at 18 years old and become fully independent. But I'm Filipino.

1:12.2

And in our culture, parents usually provide for their children's education and housing until they

1:16.6

graduate. After that, then we're expected to be on our own. So in my first year, I suggested that maybe

1:22.1

I could get a small, affordable place near my campus. But my mom dismissed that idea. She said that I wasn't ready and that I was

1:28.8

irresponsible and that I didn't even know how to do basic household chores. So I made a conscious

1:33.7

effort to prove her wrong. I started keeping the house clean, doing laundry, ironing my clothing,

1:38.8

and cooking all for myself. Granted, she never got to witness most of these herself, since she's

1:43.7

always away for work.

1:44.9

I'm in my second year now, and I heard from seniors that the upcoming third year is the

1:49.1

busiest with big group projects and productions. And for reference, I'm majoring in media

1:53.5

production, so we have lots of late night shoots. So I will definitely have to live nearby.

1:58.7

I brought this up to my mom once more, including tips my

2:01.6

friends shared with me on how to find a cheap and affordable place, but she seemed indifferent to this

2:06.1

information. Then, last night around midnight, I was on my sofa bed browsing my phone when she

2:11.4

suddenly came out of her room. She and my dad always keep their bedroom door open, so she probably

2:15.8

saw the light emitting from the living room. She then demanded to know why I was still awake, took my phone, and brought it to her room. This morning, after she had already left for work, I got my phone back from my dad, and I saw some text messages from her. She then said she was disappointed that I was up late, and because of that, she couldn't trust and allow me to move out for my third year. And at this point, I'm livid.

2:36.9

This is so excessive and I'm... that I was up late, and because of that, she couldn't trust and allow me to move out for my third

2:34.8

year. And at this point, I'm livid. This is so excessive and I'm tired of feeling belittled. I could
