A psycho customer chases down my garbage truck, all because I didn't pick up his garbage when I passed by his house. But despite the fact that he didn't even put it on the side of the road, this guy expected me to go down his long driveway, grab his stuff, and then put it in the back of my garbage truck, stating that if I don't do that for him, he is going to call my boss and get me fired. Here's what happened. So I drive a truck for the county recycling program. I started working there about four years ago, and this story happened a few months after I started. Now, there's two important things that go along with this story. When I'm on the route, I drive on the passenger side of the truck in the United States, and I operate the arm of the truck using a joystick. Also, the arm extends about 10 feet,

and trust me, this will be important later on. We service every address in the county on a two-week

rotation, and on this particular day, I was in a township that is pretty rural, lots of farmland

and forests, and it's not unusual to have to drive a fair distance between bins. On the road

this takes place on, I pick up in front of one house, then drive almost half a mile before coming to three houses next to each other. At this point, I get to the first house, and I see that the recycling bins are about 75 feet away from the road, and they're behind the trash bins for that house. So I assume they didn't have any recycling to get picked up that day,

and I then just go ahead and I drive to the next house. As I'm picking up their bins, I notice a car pulling into the driveway of the first house, but I don't pay it any mind. Then I drove to the third house. And as I'm about to leave there, I noticed that the vehicle at the first house was backing out of the driveway. And I still don't think twice about any of this. From there, I continue

up the road, maybe I still don't think twice about any of this. From there, I continue up the road maybe a quarter mile, and I turn on to a narrow side road. On the passenger side of the truck, there's fields and a culvert right by the edge of the road, and on the left side there's a forest. The street is fairly narrow, and with a culvert so close to the edge of the road that I'm on, I'm focusing on staying in the center of my lane. Suddenly, the car from that first house passes me, and when it gets in front of the truck, he slams on the brakes. And even though I stopped about two feet away from his car, I knew right then and there that this guy was absolutely going to be trouble. This guy jumps out and runs up to the driver's side

door and starts pounding on it. Again, I'm driving on the passenger side of the truck and also I'm driving standing up. The guy realizes that I'm on the other side and runs around the front of the truck and starts screaming at me. He yells at me and says, why did you pick up my recycling? I looked at and I said, you mean the bins that were 75 feet away from the road? The arm doesn't reach that far.

This jerk then says to me, well, you should have gotten out of the truck and gotten them. So I responded by saying, sir, we're not allowed on homeowners property for insurance purposes. He then says to me, well, I just got out of the local heart and lung hospital and I can't bring them to the

road myself. How else are they going to get picked up? Now, mind you, this guy is screaming at me

the entire time and he is red in the face over recycling that wasn't at the road. So is it any wonder

why he was in the hospital that specializes in heart problems? I look at him and I say,

honestly, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe ask your

neighbor to bring them to the road for you. This guy then says to me, you're going to drive back there and get my bins. But I look at him and I say, yeah, that is not going to happen. He then shouts back that, yes, you are. But I just said, look, I'll be back in two weeks. Please just have them by the road and I'll pick them up. This guy then starts screaming, I'm calling your boss.

What's his number and what's your name? And right there, I was completely fed up with this guy. I look at him and I say, I'm not telling you a single thing. He then proceeds to take a picture of me, the front of the truck and a close-up of the license plate, and finally gets back in his car and takes off. Now even though this is a side road, it's got quite a bit of

traffic on it, all due to two schools that are just past the end of my route. So, this entire time he's been yelling at me, we're blocking one lane and people are trying to get by. I got further up the road to the place where I could pull over safely, and then I called our customer service number to give the woman who answers the phones the heads up that this guy might be calling. And I filled her in on the whole encounter. She called me back that afternoon and said he called and argued with her for 45 minutes about his bins not being emptied. And in the past three and a half years since that happened, he has put his bins by the street twice. And yes, I definitely kept track of that because this guy was so obnoxious that he truly was very hard to forget. Wow, imagine being so crazy that you chase after the recycling garbage guy and you're like, oh yeah, I'm going to make a big scene. I'm going to force you to stop what you're doing and go back to my house. And it's like, seriously, dude,

there's no wonder you're in the hospital for your heart and lungs. Like, this guy got red in the face over this. Like, come on, man, it's not that serious.
