I asked you over on Instagram to share some of the thoughts and negative beliefs that are standing

in your way and you sent literally thousands in, but there was a ton of overlap. So these are the

ones that came up the most commonly. I've got a lot of thoughts here. so let's just dive right in with the first negative

belief. This is actually a set of beliefs that I grouped together because I think that they have a

similar route. I'm worried people will make fun of me for trying. Friends and family will

judge me. Strangers will judge me. People care about what I am doing at the gym, online,

in all different parts of my life. Okay, so to combat this set of beliefs, let's start off with a

very famous bit of psychology research. Years ago, a team of researchers asked people to wear a

very embarrassing shirt in public and then rate how much

other people noticed it. The people who wore the shirt overestimated by a very large margin,

how much other people even noticed, much less cared about the embarrassing shirt that they were

wearing. This led to what researchers coined to be called the spotlight effect,

essentially the mistaken belief that other people notice or care about us much more than they

actually do. By the way, this proved true on the positive side as well. The same researchers had

students wear a really cool shirt, and no one noticed or cared about that either.

There has been so much research confirming that by and large, people do not care about us

nearly as much as we think they do. And this is because they are too busy thinking about
