Sure 93% of the protests against racialized police violence last summer

were surprisingly peaceful, but in major cities across the country

those protests were far more violent than in the past. Yes, back in 2011

protesters at Occupy Wall Street and Zuccotti Park were brutally and cruelly attacked by police.

And before that, protesters at the Republican National Convention in New York City back in 2004

were way laid upon by cops.

But if you go back to the Democratic National Convention

back in 1996 that happened here in Chicago

when this show aired for the very first time,

protesters couldn't get arrested even if they tried.

Back then, caged protest zones and negotiated agreements between protesters and the police

kept everything relatively calm.
