Large protests in Washington D.C. as the city's mandatory curfew is pushed back, a day after less than two dozen were arrested during protests. Protesters march across Washington D.C. hours after new charges in George Floyd's death as the curfew gets pushed back to 11 p.m. Former Secretary of Defense James Mattis slams Trump in bombshell remarks saying, "He tries to divide us," "We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership." Mattis also says that Trump is a treat to the constitution. On the same day, current Secretary of Defense Esper breaks with Trump on using military to quell recent protests. Esper also contradicts Trump on Insurrection Act, distances himself from photo-op and didn't give the White House a heads-up on his remarks. Esper is on shaky ground with the White House after breaking with Trump over sending troops to quell protests. Trump says he has "very strong powers" to send military to cities to restore order but "I don't think we will have to" to stop unrest days after threatening to do so.
