Hey friend, it's Kristen.

Now, if you have been to a wedding outside of the temple recently, you might have heard

the bride and groom exchange vows that they wrote themselves.

I think this is kind of a new thing.

I'd never heard this when I was a kid. But the preacher will have this couple read the vows they they wrote themselves. I think this is kind of a new thing. I never heard this when I was a kid.

But the preacher will have this couple read the vows they wrote, and they can say kind of whatever

they want. They can say, I'm yours for eternity, or they can say, I'll love you and be true to you for

all time. But no matter what this couple has written in their vows, there's a truth that they all face.

If any vow or covenant is not made in God's way and by God's power, it isn't sealed in heaven.

Article of Faith Five says, we believe that a man must be called of God to preach the gospel

and administer in the ordinances thereof.

Now, I don't mean to sound callous or reign on

anyone's wedding parade, but I think we need to speak the truth. God is a God of order, and he

has proclaimed that all ordinances, including baptism and marriage, are to be done by proper

priested authority. Without that authority, those ordinances have no effect in the

eternities. So do ordinances matter? Yes, they do. But proper authority matters just as much.

So the takeaway of the day in five words or less is, priesthood authority matters.
