Conversation with my colleague Fraser Howie, the author of Red Capitalism, co-author,

along with Gordon Chang at Gordon G Chang, turning on a column by Martin Wolf, the esteemed columnist of the Financial Times,

that's just back from his first trip to China since before the pandemic.

And he's recommending the case presented by David Lee,

professor at Chingway University,

that the present Chinese regime government

center administration is based upon an imperial model better than a Soviet model to understand

this as the emperor overwhelmingly in charge, not asking for comments or response from the population

except when he or she he loses the mandate of heaven.

At the same time there is the debate that she has made for

control, for surveillance, for authority, for national security, for complete control, quite separate

from what might have been possible during the imperial period.
