This is John Bachelor speaking with Colonel Jeff McCausen, CBS News, about the challenges for the Ukrainian forces without adequate ammunition or resupply falling back from Avdivka.

The Colonel identifies May-June area of 24 as a likely Russian

jump-off for a continued offensive. And what is needed, what must be done, is to provide long-range strike weapons. The

attack comes are mentioned, the F-16s are mentioned, to fend off the Russian

overwhelming force which will need to be 3 to 5 to 1. May to June of 24.

Ukrainians need to be ready and they need to have enough ammunition to stay the fight.

I think they're very important because of their ability to strike Russian logistical lines and slow the movement of forces,

material westward.

If the Russians are going to go on the offensive,

which I think is likely in the May-June time frame,

they're going to have to realize that they need to mass

then force ratios at least 3 to 1 more like 5 or 6 to 1

to achieve breakthroughs hopefully the Ukrainians haven't stiffened their defenses

over the next several months.

To do that requires mass.

Mass requires more material, more manpower, more logistics.

And also we know one of the lessons from the war in Ukraine so far

is this is an enormously transparent battlefield, tactically

operationally and strategic. So if I can ascertain the movement forward of that

material and have weapons like the F-16, ATACums, and I think the German

Taurus, for example, that can engage those targets at greater and greater distances, then
