This is John Batzler, a conversation with my colleague Katrina Venenhovel, the editorial director and publisher of the Nation magazine, a progressive magazine for many, many decades.

We're looking at the question of the progressive left and the opinion of the

Ukrainian war which may be on the eve of escalation. The Ukrainians have asked Sir Kirstar-Starmmer of the United Kingdom and President Biden of the United States

to permit them to use the storm shadow missile against Russia's bases inside Russia.

The response from the Kremlin has been unusual, less bluff and more threat.

If you do this then, I ask Katrina to comment on the progressive left's opinion of this possible escalation and the response

The left progressive community is divided on Ukraine and I'd say the large balance of forces

in the progressive community have come to support the belief that Ukraine equals freedom. the

Ukraine equals freedom, that it deserves all of its land, or we must follow the Ukrainians.

Of course, we must bring and work with the Ukrainians to find a ceasefire and that by the way

is a point of view of a small not that small but not the largest faction of the progressive

community which is to seek a ceasefire and but not the largest faction of the progressive community,

and then hammer out in agreement.

And yes Putin was the aggressor in 2022, but the men of Russia are as equally wounded and uncared for as the men of Ukraine.
