This is John Batchzer, conversation with colleague Rebecca Grant about what is Washington focused on when it comes to Ukraine.

Rebecca makes the case that's focused on ending the conflict quickly, using hardware, that would be military hardware, and using software.

That would be tariff talk.

I think Washington is focused on trying to get this Ukraine ceasefire.

There's so many other moving pieces.

You know, don't forget there's a huge military backstop to this

where Trump literally talked about using up to 17 Patriot batteries to help defend Ukraine in Europe.

You know, there are only six Patriot batteries over there right now.

So alongside this really massive now U.S. military support from Trump for Ukraine to try to

deny Putin any gains from those air attacks that he does on Ukraine.

You know, I think that's really occupying the space a bit more.

Everyone knows that the tariffs are all about Trump.

The White House, it's a very flat, decentralized right now.

You've got to get directly to the White House to get things done.

We all know Trump is in charge of every last aspect of this deal.

And it really, if he wants to try to play out a double set of tariff deadlines to China,

Washington says, all right, let's see if you can do it.
