The Picnic, a dream of freedom in the collapse of the Iron Curtain. Matthew describes

the actual Iron curtain, the border that ran through so many of

the Warsaw Pact nations under the Soviet Empire. The irony of what it is today, a green zone.

All those years there was never anything built there and then after it lifted the Europeans on both sides of the Iron Curtain celebrated the

Green Zone.

It's something you can follow without any need for more explanation than that.

That's where the Iron Curtain was, and now it's well as Matthew explains.

perverse irony of the Iron Curtain, So for so many decades, the Iron Curtain

was an area where there was no development.

That all there ever was was fencing and landmines

and so, but there was never any kind of industry and there was no settlements, that now the

iron curtain is the most green part of Europe.

In fact, for a lot of it's now a big green zone.

It's called a green belt, because it's just essentially woodlands.
