Conversation with Peter Berkowitz, my colleague, he's at the Hoover Institution writing at

Real Clear Politics, about conservatism today, the argument within conservatism. The New Right, calling itself the nationalist conservatives

national conservatism versus the old new right which sometimes is

understood as traditionalists sometimes understood as traditionalist,

sometimes understood as the American conservatism.

There's no settling this, you can point to as we do in the course of the conversation.

Buckley broadcasts with Ronald Reagan from 1980.

That was a kind of conservatism that is now called as fusionism,

Libertarian and traditionalist.

Today the new right is going in other directions and there's much to explore.

Here's Peter Berkowitz, Hoover Institution on National Conservatism today, the new right.

The principal objection is that since the Reagan era, the United States has gone to Helen to

handbag in a handbag, and what it calls movement conservatism has done nothing to arrest the decline.

If anything it has contributed to the decline.

It looks around, it sees a popular culture that caters to the left, higher education in which

classrooms are used to promulgate progressive ideas, it looks at the weaponization of the federal bureaucracy

against conservatism and says we need a new and much more aggressive kind of

conservatism and by the way the secret is to put the nation at the center
