Sort of a love story anticipating Valentine's Day, Anthony and Cleopatra.

I speak with, and this is part of the conversation.

Barry Strauss, the professor at Cornell University, his new book is The War that Made the Roman

Empire. This is about Antony and Cleopatra and their enemy, Octavian, who will become

Augustus. Octavian uses propaganda, misinformation,

about Antony to hold the Romans to him in the dispute

between Anti Cleopatra versus Octavian.

One of the ways he does it is to undermine Antony's manhood because he's linked up with the Queen of Egypt.

He doesn't use the word heretic, but he wants to present Antony as a traitor to Rome.

And someone who is really kind of sad he presents Anthony as

someone who's been unmanned by the evil Cleopatra she's made him behave in un-Roman fashions. My favorite detail is that he lets it be, he suggests

that Anthony is sleeping under mosquito nets. What kind of Roman man would sleep under a mosquito net? And for Roman

propaganda, luxury, giving into luxury was the ultimate crime. And Anthony, he he says is doing that.
