Speaking to colleague Bob Zimmerman of Behind the Black, Lockheed, known for aircraft and other fine

0:06.5

engineering ideas, is building an inflatable module for space stations. We're looking at Commercial Space Station era in which people will

0:17.4

be going back and forth on the various spacecraft such as Dragon and staying for days or weeks in orbit. An inflatable

0:27.2

motto from Lockheed here Bob describes the details and it's a very positive

0:32.4

development. It's going to cost a lot of money. It's the next idea. Once it was Zeppelin's, then it was aircraft across America. Then was jet airplanes now it's going to be

0:45.2

inflatable space stations more of this later. Yes it is what Lockheed Martin is now

0:50.2

developing and testing is its own inflatable module designed to act as an

0:55.3

airlock for space stations and they're testing it you know they're doing pressure

0:59.5

tests and eventually they'll do the test the failure, pressure test the failure.

1:04.5

But what's interesting about this

1:05.6

is they're designing this as an airlock

1:07.9

for space stations that they can sell

1:09.7

for the many space stations being built.

1:12.2

And what's really interesting is that with the addition of locking into this

1:15.3

inflatable module design competition, there are now at least four companies,

1:21.0

building inflatable modules for sales space station

1:23.9

companies. So the aerospace is the most advanced. They're a partner in the

1:28.0

orbital reach station, but they've said that their life inflatable module will

1:31.6

be available to the cell to any other space station.

1:34.0

But there's a company in India and there's also another American company that's building these things to

1:38.9

to sell to any space station that wants that inflatable module.

1:42.1

So this is a new subcontract, the business, John,
