We speak with Bill Gertz of the Washington Times about new statistics about how many Chinese students are studying in America with the embrace of the

welcoming mat by Washington and how many people from America are not permitted to go to China and why something to do with paranoia spying.

Why are the students here in great numbers and what to make of those students is also

part of the story. Here's Bill Gerst to explain

the present mania in mainland China. More of this later this week. Well yeah first

the Chinese security services have worked to block the US from letting these students go.

China's communist government right now is in the midst of a major anti-spy hysteria.

It's the only way to describe it.

So that every foreigner in China is considered a spy at some level.

Furthermore, efforts by the U.S. to bring Chinese students to the United States

are also viewed by the Chinese Intelligence Services. We're talking about Ministry of Public

Security, which is the National Police Force, and the Ministry of State

Security, which is the Intelligence Service. They look at this effort as subversive to China's

Communist system. China is in a conspiracy mode now where they see the US is trying to

undermine the Chinese communist system. Would that it were true we should be doing that but unfortunately we're not doing that.
