intelligence officer from the Pacific Fleet, looking at the reports that the

PLA Navy has been making inroads into West African countries, a number of

them, including Nigeria along West Africa facing the Atlantic. Why? To extend the string of pearls from the

Indo-Pacific into the South Atlantic and challenge the US Navy's

supremacy throughout the Atlantic in the 20th century and now again

in the 21st century.

This Jim Finel is describing the problem, describing not enough ships, not for Africa, not for Latin America, where the

Russian Navy is busy, where the Iranian Navy is busy, where we can presume the Chinese Navy will be busy once they gain a

port on the east coast of South America but right now Africa is Jim Finel. Well I think in

I think in terms, Gordon, in terms of being able to you know launch a strike

yes we could do that but it is a great diversion and the more bases that they have the more challenging it becomes and if you

you know look at for instance we created the fourth fleet which covers Latin America

how many ships are assigned to the US fourthth fleet, zero on a daily basis. We have, you know, these

kind of arrangements where we have headquarters, but we don't have assigned ships because

our Navy is so small. So the Chinese understand this and the great game of

Wichai or Wichy go putting these bases out there puts the puts us in the back foot.
