UK. This is John Batchelor, speaking with Anne Stevenson Yang.

Her new book, Wild Ride, a short history of the opening and closing of the Chinese economy,

covers the period from the 1980s until the COVID of 2020 and experiences in China traveling

there working there working and going back and forth over the years. The vision we get is a Chinese

miracle in parts, first decade, second decade through the fifth decade, and an opening and closing of the Chinese

economy, which is the subtitle, a short history of the opening and closing.

Inside all of this, Anne describes the moment that China prepared for the 2008 Olympics.

This is right before the great financial crisis, 2008 and 2009, in which it prepared a city
