This is John Batchelor, conversation with my colleague Salina Zito of the Washington Examiner

in the Wall Street Journal about Western Pennsylvania and the decision by the White House

to turn off liquefied natural gas, also to permit regulation to end the business

of a steel mill.

Puzzle indeed, as Selina addresses that issue and talks about it in terms of

major Democratic senators, one from Ohio, one from Pennsylvania. How they've appealed

to the White House to reconsider.

Here's Selina Zito, Washington examiner explaining how confounding this is.

Pennsylvania, the Keystone State must win for whoever is going to be the new president in January of 2025.

Well, it's fascinating to me. So two Democrats that were swept into the US Senate in 2006

and that big sort of lacking other Republicans, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Bob Kese, of

Shared Brown of Ohio, Bob Casey Jr of Pennsylvania

have all sent pretty strident messages

privately and frightened messages publicly about stopping this rule from going through.

And to date, stopping this rule from going through and today they admit they have little to no luck with the

White House on this.

And it is just, it is stunning to me as one Democrat said to me privately, he said it's as if they don't want to win Western Pennsylvania because there's just between

between the Butler Works and Weyrton and then the LNG pause, it is just gutting the one of the most central and

important economic drivers in the entire state.
