Conversation with my good colleague Jeff Bliss is Pacific Watch.

Looking at San Diego, my memory of Jeff visiting San Diego several times last year is that there was this report of buses,

homeland security buses, driving into San Diego and opening the doors

and off came the migrants who had been

collected at the border, the border coming up from Central America, not with

documents looking for a hearing in future because claiming refuge, sanctuary,

from persecution.

But hundreds, thousands were dropped off by these buses with no guidance afterwards, no particular place to go, and now a report

in Denver, the mayor of Denver saying, what are we to do?

The weather's turned bad and we have these people

who came from the border and we don't have services for them or we're inadequate

for what they need.

Jeff Bliss gives me a similar report from San Diego.

The health services are overwhelmed.

They don't have housing for the 8 or 9,000, the number moves around.

San Diego has much better weather.

The puzzle is what is a city like San Diego, a city like Denver, city like New York, we hear the same story, what do they do with people

who don't have the language, who've just arrived in the countries, families, children,

young men who look for work and can't get it because they don't have papers.

All of this is a mystery that can't be solved just by saying I'm for immigration, I'm against

immigration. It requires details.
