that the new Prime Minister of Japan is discussing nuclear weapons for Japan, and the president of South Korea is

discussing the idea of acquiring plutonium for bombs for South Korea.

Then we turn to the question of what do the Chinese make of these plans

or conversations. Gordon has a very clear answer,

a nuclear arms race and China presuming in some fashion

that it is the only one with nuclear weapons.

Will that change and what does it mean?

John, right now we don't know exactly what the Chinese leadership thinks of these statements from

a sheba and from President Eun of South Korea but we can be sure that they would not

like this especially if the Japanese and South Koreans had control of their own weapons.

It would change the dynamics of East Asia fundamentally,

and not in China's favor.

The Chinese just believe, I suppose, that they will be able to intimidate both Japan and South Korea into not developing their own independent deterrence.

Yeah, Gordon. John, let me make a point here and it's very important.
