This is John Bachelor speaking with Henry Sikalski, the Executive Director of the

Non-Proliferation Policy Education Center, about the threats by Mr. Putin about nuclear weapons and chemical weapons, the concerns about Germany being

invaded. The question of are there or are there not already NATO troops in Ukraine, Mr Schultz has slipped and commented that there are

British troops in Ukraine already.

All of this adds up to, is Europe ready to participate? It's Europe ready to lead in

the defense of Europe. Henry Sikalski has thoughts and they're not positive.

In a vacuum, Europe is a mess. There's a reason why American leadership unfortunately is still

needed. What they are doing is what they have done before.

When it looks as though the United States

might be reconsidering backing up its security pledges.

And, you know, this is, I think, a pretty direct result, not just of Putin, but of Dittley and

Doddling in Washington. They put the two together, they panic and it's not like they're

entirely wrong. It's just that none of this is going to lead to very much in the way of useful effort on the part of Europe.
