Stevens Incorporated, now at the Hudson Institute, about the talk, the plan for the People's

Republic of China to build a manufacturing center in Mexico

to build BYIDs, the vehicle that's being dumped on Europe and dumped on America unless there are tariffs

raised that defend the public from the subsidized and cynical way China has dominated manufacturing these last years. It may be

talking Mexico and maybe not. Mary addresses that on the basis of Amlow's government and now the new president

Claudia Shinebaum on the basis of the Biden administration and the potential for a

new president in 25 either Ms Harris or Mr. Trump, is Mary Kisele on the cynicism

of the Chinese factory floor, using Mexico as a conduit to avoid the US defending itself from dumping.

I don't think it's tough talk I think Mexico wants Chinese investment but they don't

believe that Mexico that China is their enemy they see benefit in that

those capital improvements and I don't think that the United States

stands right now has very much leverage over Mexico at all.

That may change if President Trump is once again reelected. He's

shown a propensity to punish nations that don't do what he wants and he means what

he says. That's very clear.

So it may be a different conversation

if you see a second Trump presidency.

But you're right, John, that kind of nearshoring

of Chinese companies to evade our tariff regime is a big problem and we need to address it.
