field and it did.

And so that 30,000 includes all of their family members.

And I'll get to the reason why that number was so high in a second.

But to your point, when know back to when the the airfield was was

completely overrun there were only you know like we said there were only several hundred American troops on the ground.

There was no way that they could possibly clear that airfield short of just

committing mass brutality and shooting unarmed civilians.

And so what the CIA did at the time is they approached those NSU units that they had been training and advising and using for the

last 20 years and they struck a deal.

They said if you guys come in and if you help us clear the airfield, then we'll get you and your family members out.

The NSU is well known for, you know, you call it harsh tactics, other people will call it war crimes or brutality.

But they, I mean, they got the job done very quickly.
