This is John Batchelor. Great fun to speak with the novelist Robert Mattson, whose very careful research

of the making of the movie Casablanca, brings to life in a way that I've never seen any other novel do.

The characters, the Hollywood giants of this time,

Humphrey Bogart of course, Claude Rains, Ingrid Bergman, and also the making of the movie,

Jack Warner, The Warner Brothers slot, the Lunchtime episodes where Errol Flynn in costume comes in and eats his lunch very quickly at the

writer's table.

All wonderful portrayed this particular piece from Robert Mattson's conversation later tonight is about the first

time that Humphrey Bogart and Claude Rains work together ever, rehearsing and then shooting the scene outside of Rick's beginning of Casablanca.

Why did you come to Casablanca? I came for the waters. There are no waters. This is a desert.

I was misinformed. That wonderful dialogue. Well, it was magic for them too. Here's Robert

Mattson. Season of the gods is the novel, work of fiction, based on very

careful research of the making of Casablanca early 1942 during the time when the U is losing the war to Japan and Britain and

the continent are losing the war to the Hitler rights.

No, they had not worked together before they walked on the set.

Their first scene together was where there's, he puts the girl in the cab, Bogart puts the girl in the cab, then he wanders

back toward the front of Ricks and Claude Rains is sitting there and they have the scene about, you know,

why did you come to Casablanca,

it came for the waters.

They had not met before that, but they had this, oh my God, you know, your really good moment after they had just, you know your really good moment after they had just you know rehearsed together and

then shot these scenes they realize that where have you been all my life more of this

later
