Once Upon a Time, writing now in a senior position about the recent controversies over

campuses anti-Semitism

confrontation freedom of speech.

In this instance however, Peter's responding to the question of

how is it that the faculties have become entirely one-sided and what is to be done?

Peter responds about universities and a proper and rational and common-sensical mix of opinions, dissent, advocacy, controversy in a faculty

Typical conservative interests are now welcome at the university.

Actually, someone who is endowed with a conservative sensibility

would be drawn to the original, in my view, proper aim of liberal education, one of its

original proper aims, which is to preserve the treasures of Western civilization. What is a more central or urgent conservative task?

But the university these days, colleges and universities days,

generally, or I should say, often, set themselves against that essentially conservative

task of liberal education, preserving treasures of Western civilization, when they're not talking

about overturning those treasures or denouncing

those treasures, they're insisting that all we really need to know has been generated

in the last few days or the last few months or the last few years.

So a college or a university that was devoted to liberal education,
