This is John Batchelor, a fun conversation with novelist David McCluskey.

His new book is Moscow X.

His previous thriller, these are CIA thrillers, was Damascus Station. I spoke to him about that.

Several years past. He worked at the CIA, a CIA officer, consultant

McKinsey and company.

He worked with the CIA in the Middle East.

He briefed the administration.

He briefed Arab Shakes.

He's knowledgeable on the Middle East. He also is now knowledgeable on

Moscow because this new novel is about right now the power around Putin, the power of Putin, and how what's happened is the

KGB is turned into a money-making organization for those strong enough to hold on to their cash, whether it's

in gold or assets or banks overseas or banks at home.

The book is a thriller, and here David talks about his inspiration for the villain of villains in his new

piece based upon Putin's inner circle. It's fun. The book reads extremely well. I recommend it get on an airplane. You'll read right through it

David McClosky Moscow X? Well I did base that character off of Nikolai Patrichev and you know I found I found it interesting to kind of go with some at least as a starting point for

an inspiration somebody like Patrochev who has held a number of high positions inside Putin's courts.

He was the director of the FSB.
