This is John Bachelor speaking with Seth Franzman, the chief correspondent for the Jerusalem Post in the Gaza War,

asking about North Gaza.

All Gaza is divided into three parts.

North Gaza, Gaza City, and the neighborhoods close by.

Kagnunis in the center and the neighborhoods close by.

And the Rafak Crossing and what's left of Rafak village in the south where the refugees

are gathered. Seth speaks to North Gaza how that land has been prepared by Hamas for years,

very comfortable for them to fight.

Why the estimate that we get from the IDF is that this will take months moving into a honeycomb of fighters the

best they've got dug in in North Gaza here's Seth to explain. Yes, the fighting in Gaza City is very difficult.

It's basically the first month of the ground campaign in November was Israel encircling Gaza City and sending units kind of south of it and then going along the coast to kind of encircle it completely and then go into all the neighborhoods kind of around the city let's say the more modern some of the more modern neighborhoods like

Rimal and also the Shati refugee camp which was which was a densely packed area.

The second part of this campaign that kicked off on December 1st has seen the Israel units going into Shugaya and Jamalia, these two kind of neighborhoods that are adjoined to Gaza City.

Shugaya is, let's say, slightly more south and more east.

Jabalia's slightly more north and east, but they're basically, think of very heavily built-up

neighborhoods. They are festooned with Hamas terrace infrastructure like tunnels.
